A How-To Date Night Guide for Quaran-times
Ah, the things this quarantine has done to us. We stay home all day, cook pantry meals on repeat, watch Netflix in its entirety, voluntarily watch paint dry. But it’s also thrown us another curveball—how do we go on date nights when we spend every night at home? Well, folks, all it takes is a little creativity to ignite that romantic spark. We promise, it’s possible—even in these ultra strange quaran-times.
As an ode to our latest collection, let’s rediscover the soul in your soul-matey union. You know, the whole reason why you guys actually do really (really, really) like each other. Why he’s the flip to your flop and she’s the peanut to your butter, and all that stuff. Here are 7 ideas for a stay-at-home date night—just you, your wasa-bae, and an evening of co-isolating romance.
Candlelit Dinner
We’re guessing you have the following things: some type of food assortment, a table, chairs, and maybe a half-burnt cinnamon-scented candle from three holidays ago. Great! You’re all set for a romantic, candlelit dinner. Seriously—just adding a candle amps the romance factor considerably, even if you’re just eating reheated Chef Boyardee (no judgement here). Bonus points if you have kids and they’re bored: ask them to be your servers so you two can really kick back and relax.
Spa Treatments
There’s no reason to go to some fancy joint to clear your mind of stress and your face of blackheads. Just throw on a robe, get some Sade on the stereo, and recreate the experience with your partner. You can give each other massages, face masks, foot rubs, mud baths (hey, it’s a time for experimentation)—whatever your heart desires. The goal is to relax, have fun, and relish in the fact that your home spa won’t require a month’s rent in fees.
Art Time
Remember how you used to say, “If only I had time to take an art class!” Regardless of whether you’ve ever said that in your life, now’s the time. Drag out your crayons and paints and origami worksheets and let the creativity flow. To make it extra fun for date night, try drawing portraits of each other. Talent in this matter is of zero regard. But remember: constricting clothing reduces creativity (there’s a study on this, somewhere), so both of you best get comfy to unleash the true genius.
Booze Tasting
No need to limit this to wine. There are no rules here. Just use whatever’s in stock, line it up, tie a handkerchief over your eyes, take a sip, and guess whatever kind of velvety deliciousness is trailing down your throat. Set up stations all over the house so it feels like you and your mate are on a real live booze tour. If you want to turn it up a notch, take actual notes and compare with each other later. Which might be in the morning, depending on how said booze tour ends.
Personality Quizzes
According to highly-researched statistics, you probably know, like, 82.64% of everything possible about your partner (especially after six weeks of isolation). But aren’t you curious about the other 17.36%? Find out by having a date night of personality quizzes. Try a classic Myers-Briggs, the 16Personalities test, a Disc Assessment, or an Enneagram. Or, to really dig into the deepest burroughs of soul reveal, do the “36 Questions that Lead to Love”. Now that’s the real business.
Tour Everything
Ok, we’ve always known the internet is a magical place of rabbit holes and secret passageways to nether worlds. But did you know that you can really, truly virtually tour all sorts of incredible places? For example: the Vatican, the Louvre, the Smithsonian, Baltimore’s National Aquarium, Disney World, even SPACE. So grab some popcorn, cuddle up, and see the world. Tickets are about a thousand times cheaper from your couch (aka free)—plus, you get to wear everything loungy.
Jam Out
You miss concerts, your partner misses concerts, we all miss concerts. Thankfully, they’re still available... just, ya know, packaged a little differently. For example: this lineup of musicians who are live-streaming jams straight from their homes to ours, which basically allows you to tell your partner that you commissioned a private John Legend concert just for the two of you. Don’t worry, your secret is safe with us. It’s doubtful we’ll run into your significant other (or anyone else in the world) anytime soon.
Yes, you could dress up for date night. Or, you could make the right, soul-mate-affirming choice. We suggest the latter. Check out our latest collection.
