10 Ways To Quarantine-Chill With Your Best Buds
Best buds are the best. They make us laugh and chill us out, especially when times are tough. Which makes our current situation extra tricky: all we want to do is de-stress with our buds, but social distancing’s number one rule is zero hanging out (which is why social distancing has zero fans). Thankfully, since the internet rules, there’s a bounty of virtual hang solutions to keep you and your bffs up to the same tricks—or at least on the same digital airwave.
In honor of our new weed-inspired collection, let’s remember that quarantine is a joint effort. To stay mellow, we gotta band together (six feet apart, of course). Here are ten ways to virtually chill* with your besties, all to keep the stress levels low and the laugh levels high.
*Disclaimer: showering is optional—official quarantine rules.
Lunch Date
Lunch is that magical workday hour where you get to trade responsibility for chowing down and talking exclusively about Tiger King. This is way less fun to do solo at your makeshift desk (aka your couch, bed, or bathtub), so shut down your email and set a FaceTime lunch date with your favorite people. You might just find this works in your favor—your chips have never been safer.
Yoga Hang
Between all the breathing and the stretching and the naps savasana, yoga’s like an instant relaxer shot straight to the veins. But due to that whole risk of falling asleep while practicing alone, try virtual yoga with a friend instead. There are all sorts of free YouTube channels (like Yoga with Adriene) or apps that you can do together via phone. And to really get your relaxin’ on, stretch it out in a Bralette or Lounge Pants—their super softness will get you right into that flow.
Netflix (Separately) & Chill
Per usual, Netflix is ahead of the curve. With Netflix Party, you can synchronize a show or movie between several screens so you’re watching it at the same time. Plus, there’s a group chat, so everyone can freak out together when Ozark goes even more ham in Season Three. For superior watching comfort, snuggle up in our extra-cozy Hoodie—mainly because you can hide your face in it when shit gets real.
Anything Club
This is your opportunity to start any.single.kind.of.club you’ve ever desired on this earth. Book club, podcast club, muffin club, soap-carving club (these are real and they’re amazing). Whatever it is, decide on a topic with your friends, do the thing, then schedule a video call to chat about it later. Don’t forget the wine (the real reason anyone starts a club).
Game Night
There’s no longer a need to be in the same room to play the same game, ever again. With the Houseparty app, you can virtually connect with your pals and enjoy all sorts of competitive delights, like Quick Draw, Heads Up, or Trivia. Consider throwing on a comfy tank and shorts prior—these things can get heated.
Laugh Status
Literally the easiest and best thing you will do all day. Schedule a time daily where you and your pals send each other the funniest thing you’ve got. It could be anything—the world’s best internet meme (at that moment in time), a video of Grandma trying to figure out Zoom, a picture of your dog dressed as Queen Elizabeth—if it’s funny, it wins. Send.
Pajama Party
If quarantine is good for anything, it’s giving PJs their time in the sun. And we know you have your special, one-of-a-kind, save-them-for-the-PJ-party pair. So schedule a virtual hang with one rule—pajamas only—and let everyone show off their wow-worthy jammies. Pro tip: If you really want to steal the show, consider a Onesie—it’s the super-soft style statement your friends will always, always remember.
Letter Time
Remember that time in ancient history when you’d open the mailbox to discover a letter from your bff? Was that not the best feeling ever? Yes, in fact, it was. Let’s resurrect this forgotten pastime. It doesn’t have to be an actual paper letter—email works, too—but sit down and write a nice little note to your pal. It will fill them with all the feels, and once you get that letter back… oh boy, how you’ll love that good-feel rush.
Walk & Talk
This one’s pretty self-explanatory. Go outside for a walk, call your friend for a talk. But try just talking—not FaceTiming, not Zooming, just that good ‘ole voice connection. Getting outside, moving, and (actually) experiencing nature is super important for lowering stress, and chatting with a friend helps the time go by.
Vacation Dreamin’
If you’re starting to hallucinate rescue boats that will actually take you to remote islands far, far away from our current reality, schedule a virtual friend hang to start planning your next dreamy getaway. Having something to focus on and look forward to might just be the gift you never knew you needed. Nothing like that little slice of Hawaii-to-come, with all your besties, in-person, as real live humans, to keep you marching toward that post-quarantine light.
